Nehemiah chapter 13 seems like a disappointing way to end what has been an uplifting book. The chapter is filled with broken promises and frustration on the part of Nehemiah. Why is this messy account included in the Bible of how weak and powerless we are to follow God unless somebody is constantly bearing down on us?
