Sunday Morning 9.16.18 from Carrollwood Baptist Church on Vimeo.

Pastor Joe

22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.

James 1:22-25, NIV

1. The _______________ Person (1:23-24)

A person who takes a casual glance in a poor mirror illustrates those who hear God’s word without _______________ what it says.

The real problem with hearing the Word and not doing it is that it deceives a person into thinking _______________ has occurred when it has not.

Hearing without doing undermines _______________ and ultimately ends in _______________ (Matt. 7:21-27).

2. The _______________ Person (1:25)

The doer looks into the Word and sees himself or herself as _______________ does. Then _______________ are made based on what is seen.

Unlike the poor reflection given by a metal mirror, God’s Word offers a “perfect” reflection of _______________ which leads to “_______________” to those who “do what it says.”
